Gold Rush Canada

Who shot the boss? is the question that Gold Rush Canada asked several thousand contestants before releasing them to search for the $80,000 dollars buried somewhere in the Nation’s Capital on Saturday July 27th 2019 at 9 am. Armed only with a special map, a video from the website, and smart phones, everyone headed for where they thought the first clue was hidden.

Now, days later, most people (if not all) are stuck on the third challenge of ten. Based on the comments on the Facebook page, people are getting very frustrated. (As of July 30th when this post was written.)

Nobody said that it would be easy.

So why am I talking about an event that is currently ongoing?

Because Ottawa is only the first city of six.

On August 10, Edmonton starts. August 17 is Calgary and Montreal, and August 24th Toronto and Vancouver.

Due to Ottawa’s event taking longer than expected, they have rearranged the dates for the other cities.

Montreal is August 24, Vancouver is August 31, Calgary is September 7, Edmonton is September 14, and Toronto is September 21.

Are you ready to reserve your map, solve the mystery, and find the treasure?

Knowledge of Escape Rooms is definitely an advantage.

The Lockhart Montreal

Toronto’s Lockhart cafe did so well that the owners decided to open another location in Montreal!

If you’re heading out to Montreal (like we might be this summer), this is a must-stop for any Harry Potter fan. On rue St Denis, this cafe is only open from 5pm to 2am daily, so plan accordingly.

Harry Potter Orchestra

If you live near Montreal or Toronto, love Harry Potter, and love live music, then you’ll probably want to know about these fantastic opportunities.

Montreal is playing Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone on the big screen, with live accompaniment on April 8 and 9, 2017. You can read about it and get tickets here.

Toronto is doing the same thing, with Philosopher’s Stone on June 27, 2017, and Chamber of Secrets on October 12, 2017. You can read about it and get tickets here.

If you don’t live close enough to these cities to make the trip in one day, I know some great hotels in both cities that I can book for you. I can book transportation, whether train, car rental, or flight, as well!

News in Montreal

Montreal (well, an hour outside of Montreal) has a Hobbit House that you can stay at. I read this news last week and promptly got so excited that I almost fell off my chair. (Exaggeration. I sit on a couch.)

This cute little place means that you can visit Middle-Earth without travelling to New Zealand! However, it is already booked solid until the new year. (Who is surprised? Not me!)

Montreal

A city that has made a name for itself in the geek community recently is Montreal. Not only are tons of movies being filmed in Montreal, but its Comic Con, Otakuthon, and smaller conventions have attracted some big name guests, and they have comic book shops on practically every corner on St Catherine.

And they now have a public Hobbit garden. What could be better?

Girls on Games wrote a great article on local hot spots that you should check out, including a bunch of coffee/board game shops, and the Montreal Science Centre.

If you want to see a bunch of film locations from your favourite movies, you have come to the right city. From movies like X-Men: Days of Future Past to Warm Bodies, and tons of others, you can easily hop from one movie set to another. Although there are no touring companies at the moment, I don’t see why there wouldn’t be one in the future. In the meantime, I would love to build a tour for you!

Last but certainly not least, Just For Laughs is based in Montreal. They are definitely worth the time!

There is so much to do and see in Montreal! If you are interested in going, contact me Jennifer Desmarais through AJ Travel. jenniferd@ajtravel.ca

Hayley Atwell

In case you hadn’t guessed, I’ve got a bit of a crush on the amazing Hayley Atwell. I didn’t get a chance to see her while she was in Montreal this past weekend, but Geek Inked Magazine wrote an article about her panel here.

Montreal Comic Con

I hope that all the people going to Montreal Comic Con this weekend have a great time. We will be in Ottawa, envious of all those that get to bask in Hayley Atwell’s presence.

I think Peggy Carter would make an excellent companion for the Doctor, don’t you?
