Pegasus liked this movie, although Hexus scared him, and he thought the gloopy Hexus was a different character from the human-like Hexus, so that was kinda funny to discover.

We are working on the day before and the day after any given day. The months of the year is going well. All months have proper pronounciation now, and we’re working on the month before and after any given month. That’s coming slowly.
We practised the seasons, but he still needs help remembering them in French.
Printing words
We’re working on spacing and keeping the words on the bottom line. I’m going to go over where letters belong on the line during March Break, I think.
Counting objects/math-type activities
He still has no problems with counting these, and I feel like his numbers have improved. He didn’t need my help with drawing the numbers.
Math worksheets. He REALLY likes these. He did them both on Monday because he was so excited to do them once again.
Storytime
We read 1 of the French library books this week.
Activity
Learn about the 3 R’s – Pegasus is incredibly enthusiastic about reusing materials (should I be worried?) after learning about how much it helps the environment. We’ll see what he comes up with.
Learn about the Amazon rainforest – When I asked him after we watched a video about the rainforest what he’d learned, he said, “Rainforests are important for breathing and need to be protected.” I think he got the important parts.
Plant bean seeds indoors – We planted yellow and green beans. I took out the yellow beans first, which were white, and then Pegasus thought that the green beans might be blue. He was surprised when they were black. He carefully placed the seeds in the bags and helped me water them.
This comes a couple weeks earlier than the end of second semester, but I have an empty week here due to March Break, and I don’t have one later, so here we are.
I am extremely pleased with how well homeschooling went this semester.
The worksheets were a great success, and I won’t be changing how they worked. Pegasus loves the math worksheets especially. I’m happy that removing the tracing printing and counting worksheets turned out so well. Pegasus was getting annoyed with them and I wasn’t enjoying the fight. This whole year is supposed to be fun!
I have also lowered the amount of cooking that we’re doing. He loves baking, but cooking is too boring. (And he’s scared of burning himself. We’ll have to figure out how to help him get over that fear.)
The biggest struggle we’ve got is convincing Pegasus to speak French. He seems convinced that he can’t do it, exactly like his sister. Although he knows individual words, he can’t seem to pick them out when people are talking to him, and he doesn’t try to meld them into sentences on his own either. We’re just continuing to soldier on.
He has taken quite well to reading, when I break words down into syllables. This is with both French and English reading.
Pegasus loved this movie. He laughed at all the right moments and scoffed at others when they did silly things.

We got 4 new French library books this week. We read one.
Activity
Make pancakes – Pegasus really enjoyed doing the pouring, although he’s still not holding the cups still for milk, so it just sort of flows in and out, so it made the pancakes a little doughier than we would normally make them. He loved watching for the bubbles to know when to flip them, and really didn’t want to try flipping them himself. (He’s scared to burn himself.)
Learn about the weather – We learned a little about weather last week, when graupel fell on Thursday. Graupel looks like little balls of styrofoam (and sounds like it too), and I was very curious about what it was, so I took some pictures and sent them off to Mark Robinson, a meterologist (and friend). Graupel forms by getting a super cold “dry” deposition of frost on a tiny ice pellet.
Design an island – We did this differently than the way I did it with Dragon, and I was REALLY happy with how this turned out. We poured dice on the paper (rice can be used as well), and then traced the outline. Anywhere where there were holes became lakes, where the dice were stacked became mountains. Then we cleared the dice, selected a few and threw them again to trace around for forests. Something I would change in the future: I would make the mountains upsidedown V’s instead of circles.
Don Bluth has made some excellent films, and I love discussing modifications to characters to give them a unique look. (and how they still have their similarities!) This is also a low-key activity week, which is perfect for before March Break.

Shapes Activity – We did this before the Blue Eye experiment discussion, essentially having the same conversation but with using shapes that he cut out. He seemed to catch on, which made the other discussion easier to follow for him.
Experiment Blue Eyes – We talked about the experiment while we were unloading the dishwasher. Pegasus was very indignant that one group of people had privileges just because of the way they looked. This led to discussions about the Holocaust, Gaza, and segregation.
Elephant Rescues – He enjoyed learning about the elephant rescue program, but was sad that their mothers died/were killed.

Experiment Blue Eyes (link to experiment) – use different shapes in different colours and have them grouped in different ways, picking one group to be “lesser” each time. Does that make sense? No! Elephant rescues in Africa (video) Shapes Activity (print out in folder) – can make more shapes. Group them, name them, etc.
Pegasus was entranced by this movie. He seemed to understand what was going on and was very sad when a secondary character died. He said that his favourite part was when the second star appeared.

We read all four of the French library books again. He did really well and read several pages on his own.
Activity
Cooking rice bowl – He was very enthusiastic about chopping, prepping, and the initial combination, and he really enjoys dumping things into other things. But he has absolutely no interest in sticking around and watching the food cook.
Baking beignets – He really enjoys working with dough, and loves seeing things rise. The initial rolling, he got bored. And then the cutting after, he got even more bored. Thankfully he wasn’t interested in the frying part (because boiling oil!). He loved using the mixer and dumping ingredients into it. (Dragon helped a bit with this one because she wanted to.)
Learn about frogs – We read about different frogs from his sister’s schoolwork, and we watched a couple videos about wood frogs thawing after a freeze. He was tremendously interested in them coming back to life.
