Pegasus liked this movie. He says “I liked it! It was good,” and when pressed about what parts exactly he liked, he says “I liked all of it!”

His scales are coming along nicely and he willingly practises both his scales and the pieces in the book. He’s only 20 pages away from finishing the first book.

We are working on the day before and the day after any given day. The months of the year is going well. All months have proper pronounciation now, and we’re working on the month before and after any given month. That’s coming slowly.

We practised the seasons, but he still needs help remembering them in French.

Printing words

Pegasus has forgotten to drop his p’s below the line, and didn’t care to fix it. Great g on page 1 though.

Counting objects/math-type activities

This week, he had trouble with the direction of his 7’s. He fixed them.

Math worksheets. Zero problems with these, after we walked through the series on page 2.

Storytime

We have no French library books this week, so he read some French books through Boukili.

Activity

Draw by number – he was very excited to trace the puppy

Garden – It was very hot, but Pegasus stuck it out. He preferred collecting the discarded stuff and watering. He was not a fan of getting his hands dirty, even though he was wearing gloves (tbh, that tracks). He helped plant zucchini.

Learn about body systems – he was deeply invested in the videos and answered the quiz questions at the end of each one correctly.

Pegasus enjoyed this movie, especially the antics of the triplets (I’m shocked, I tell you). I thought it was funny that he made a book about a bear last week, when this week was the movie about a bear, but I guess it’s just a coincidence.

He wrote the 9 and 6 backward, but he fixed them without complaint.

Math worksheets. Zero problems with these. He was extremely proud of his star. His 7 was backward again, but he fixed it no problem.

Activity

Elements of a fairy tale – We discussed what elements are in fairy tales, and how the movie showed (or tweak) them. Then, Pegasus came up with a fairy tale of his own, which was so much fun! Here it is:

Once upon a time, in a kingdom far, far away, there lived a king with a daughter. She had lots of special powers, like healing, turning invisible, and being really good at hiding. A witch heard about these special powers and wanted them for her own, so she snuck into the castle and stole the princess away! She turned the princess into a talking frog and put her in a tower, far away from the kingdom she had grown up in. The witch told the princess that she had seven nights to figure out how to turn back into a human, or else she would remain a frog for all time, and her powers would belong to the witch. The princess, on the first night, turned invisible and snuck out of the tower. She knew that if she made it back to her kingdom, she would return human. Her journey home was fraught (my word lol) with danger. She fought off a snake that wanted to eat her, but she escaped. She was almost eaten by a crocodile, but she escaped. She was almost eaten by a heron, but she escaped. At long last, she made it to her kingdom. The instant she crossed the border, she became human again, right before the clock struck midnight on the seventh night. Her father was so happy to have her home once more.

Make spell cake – We did not make spell cake, and instead made iced cookies from Dragon’s Disney cookbook. Pegasus loved making these. They were extremely drippy and messy, but they were delicious!

Learn about bears – He enjoyed the video about bears for kids and randomly spouted facts the next day that he’d gotten from the video, so I gather he paid attention.

Pegasus was entranced by this movie, rightfully so. The worldbuilding in this is absolutely brilliant, as are the animations.

I feel like his dangling letters (g, y) are doing better. He still doesn’t care about spaces or keeping the letters within the space required.

He did a great job with this one this week.

Math worksheets. He did them both on Monday morning because he was so excited to do them once again. He did need a little help with the 3D shapes and with seeing the pattern for the 33, 43, but once I showed him the basic shapes and helped him see the pattern for the numbers, he didn’t need my help beyond that.

Activity

Learn about immigration – he understood the concept and seemed surprised that it happens in real life too (I clarified that it wasn’t fire people in real life, and he seemed less surprised after that).

Make a mini zine – This activity was to write a book, but unfortunately due to sickness, we didn’t spend as much time on this as I had wanted. We only got the outline down on Thursday, and then we used images that he had already manipulated, or unmanipulated images in order to build the picture book. This was entirely Pegasus’s idea, I had absolutely nothing to do with it. I have no idea where he got the idea to be eaten by a bear, or cutting a bear open from the inside.

Pegasus was VERY invested in this movie. At the Rainbow Road, and again at the end, he kept hopping around as if he was trying to help the characters. He definitely followed the story, as he told me all about it afterward (even though I half-watched it with him).

This was an easy one because I wanted him to practise the smaller numbers. He did a great job.

Activity

Learn about friction – We watched the video about friction twice, and he was engrossed. I think he understood; he answered the questions I asked him about it afterward correctly. Who knows how long the information will stick though.

Make a board game – He started off wanting the board to look like “Snakes and Ladders”, but after realizing how much work it was going to be to colour in 100 squares, he decided to change it to a pathway board. Sunk-cost fallacy didn’t play into this decision, which I found interesting. He was quite enthusiastic about colouring the new board and completed it in two days. He was enthusiastic about making the dice and his mind was blown when it folded up into 3D. He is very happy with how this turned out.

This is such a cozy movie. I had planned on writing during it, but the music and animation drew me right in (even though I’ve seen it before many times). Pegasus loved it. He says “I loved everything about this movie and want to see it again.”

We’re working on spacing and keeping the words on the bottom line. He really doesn’t care about spacing.

Counting objects/math-type activities

He pretended he didn’t know what his numbers were. He would count in French, and then say “What number is that?” It was incredibly frustrating.

Math worksheets. He did them both on Monday morning because he was so excited to do them once again. He didn’t need my help at all, and when I pointed out that 6+6 wasn’t 11, he knew instantly that it was 12. Hence my frustration with the counting above.

Storytime

We have no French library books this week, so he read some French books through Boukili.

Activity

Make a fairy door – He was very enthusiastic about both making and painting his fairy door. He pointed out that the paint changed colours when they touched and was excited to see what each new colour would be.

Make tiny furniture – I asked him which piece of furniture he wanted to build, and he decided on the bed, just like his sister. I had hoped that we could also make a miniature bookcase with some books, but I lost steam this week and we ended up not building that. He sewed most of the pillow himself (I did the hidden stitches after stuffing it.)

Make a hair clip – He chose this soft green fabric (which I had used to make my Vanelloppe cosplay in 2013). We didn’t glue it like the instructions said, but sewed it instead. I made the setting stiches, and he added more to secure it, and tied off the thread. He was very proud of himself.
