A review of Pixar’s Up

up-posterI was lucky enough to see Pixar’s Up last night and two things came to mind. First, I hate seeing movies on Saturday Nights, opening night people really want to see the movie weekend afternoons people are there to relax but Friday/Saturday night is the night that people who have nothing better to do go to the movies. The couple next to me looked like they were ready for a nightclub or porno movie and complained the whole time they were there.

The second thought that came to mind was how amazingly well written the movie was. More after the cut:

Short Version: If you like movies with an intelligent and fun story go see Pixar’s Up.

*Warning Mild Spoilers*

Story
The montage at beginning is perfect, makes you cry, laugh, and truly feel for the main character. They managed to write a great introduction to the character that set up the rest of the movie perfectly.

The rest flows throughout the next two hours wonderfully. Pixar writers have a way of making you truly feel for the characters.

Pacing
As mentioned above everything was balanced to make you smile after crying and laugh after being scared. When the movie ended you wanted there to be more but knew that the story was over.

Acting
It’s hard to judge voice acting but unlike other animated movies where I get jostled out of the action by character/voice disconnections, I completely forgot this was animation and that these characters weren’t just amazing actors.

Production Value
Top notch production value is expected from Pixar and they deliver almost flawlessly. There were a few moments where the animation isn’t perfect and looks like CGI but only if you look really carefully at the shape of some characters mouths. Other then that tiny little pet peeve of mine it was beautiful. A parallel world where anything is possible.

Overall
One of Pixar’s best movies in my opinion and that’s saying a lot about how well written it and well created it was. If you haven’t seen it, go see it.

I give it 9.5 on 10.

  1. Great review sweetie! I didn’t notice the mouth quirks, but you’re much more observant of that kind of thing than I am. 🙂
