Introducing Two New Coffee Flavours

Hello,

Ottawa Comic Con is coming very soon. (Just typing those words sends a shiver of panic up my spine.)

This year JenEric Designs will be sharing a table with the awesome Renaissance Press, along with Gilove2dance.

New Flavours

One of my many new years resolutions was to bring our total amount of coffee flavours to 15. We’re a little closer to that goal now. Our two newest coffee flavours are:

Returning Flavours

They will be available at Comic Con along with our core flavours and a few other favourites:

Decaf

And because decaf has proven to be popular we’ll also have three kinds of decaf:

As you can see we’ll have lots of coffee for you this year. Don’t forget that if you get to our table early enough we’ll have free samples.

I’m currently loving Minter’s Coming. What flavour is your favourite?

Blush: Sex versus Gender

Dragon19-weeks02

On Monday of this week, we found out the sex of our baby Dragon. When it cam time to write the poll question for yesterday’s post, we briefly puzzled over whether to write “sex” or “gender”, because those terms are so often used interchangeably when discussing a baby. After some research, we found our answer.

Question

What’s the difference between “sex” and “gender”?

Answer

Sex refers to whether the sex organs identify a person as male or female at birth. Factors which determine sex, such as chromosomes, gametes, internal organs, and hormones, don’t usually factor into determination at birth, which is why a ton of intersex conditions go unnoticed at first. When discussing a baby, unless you opt for the intensive DNA profiling, you determine the sex by the external sex organs…does the baby have a penis or vulva?

Gender refers to the roles that society places on a person based on their sex. Male, female, genderqueer, agender, and gender fluid would be words used to define gender. Gender identity can only be given by the person in question. This is definitely not something that an ultrasound can tell.

Contest WINNER, and more Dragon Pictures

Hello My Imaginary Friends,

I’m wrestling with an extremely large project today so it’ll be a quick blog. Just 3 things: Contest Winner, more pictures of Dragon, and a guessing game.

Contest Winner

We ran a contest to encourage people to pledge to Blush. They just had to be a backer and enter the contest to win.

Without further ado, the winner is A. Reeder! Congrats!

The $50 is good for conventions or online. Just let us know what you’d like.

Aren’t they cute? (I’m sure every parent says that.)

We found out the sex yesterday, but Jen’s graduating class is running a contest to guess, so we can’t tell you until later this week. This gives you guys a chance to guess! Which do you think? Boy or girl?

Guess Dragon's Sex

  • Female (55%, 33 Votes)
  • Male (45%, 27 Votes)

Total Voters: 60

Toothless

I adore Toothless as a character, and even more when he shows up at my table! This cosplay was 100% perfect, and totally made my day.

Side note: I really hope no one is confused as to why we nicknamed our baby Dragon – does this help to clear it up though?

Proud of my Award Winning Writer!

Hello My Imaginary Friends,

My amazingly talented wife had a great weekend. First Blush was fully funded. (We’ll let you know when the pre-orders start.)

She also entered and won the Fantasy short story Scholarship from Geek Market.

We're pleased to announce that the following participants won the writing scholarships! Science-fiction: Agnes Cadieux ("Mikey") Horror: Adriana Wiszniewska ("Salvation") Fantasy: Jennifer Desmarais ("The Painting")... See more — with Marie Victoria Robertson and Jen Desmarais.

I’m extremely proud of my wife and she wrote a fantastic story.

Hopefully you will get to read it. When and if Geek Market posts it, I’ll let you know.

Sticky Brain

Hello My Imaginary Friends,

We went to Geek Market this weekend and it was a lot of fun. It’s an incredibly well run event with some of the nicest staff and volunteers. Sales were ok for us, but nowhere near what I’d expected. We still made our table and got to hang out with Renaissance Press and all the other awesome people who were there.

Two highlights of the weekend are the Blush Kickstarter making its first stretch goal and my awesome wife winning the Fantasy Short Story Scholarship contest. She worked really hard on both Blush and the story, and I couldn’t be more proud.

Between Geek Market and all the other things I’ve been working on, I was completely and utterly exhausted last night. I should have easily fallen asleep… My brain had other ideas.

How Well I Sleep by Fowl Language Comics
How Well I Sleep by Fowl Language Comics

As I lay awake until 1 or 2 in the morning (I stopped checking at 12:30), my brain kept running an idea for a Webcomic through my head. Over and over, I kept thinking of what it could be and the story and the tone. Sigh.

Suffice it to say, I was even more exhausted this morning. I still couldn’t get the idea out of my head. So I spent this morning writing it out. I’ll pitch it to a friend who’s interested in drawing more and we’ll see what happens. I mean I really don’t have enough to do.

I don’t want to spoil anything and the comic would be a collaboration so things will change, but I can give you the working title: “Joust a Windmill”.

What sort of things does your brain keep you up with?

Later Days!
