Hello my imaginary friends,
Last week I wrote ahead to make sure I had Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday off from writing. I thought that was enough. I totally forgot about the fact that Monday was a vacation and that I should have worked ahead. Past Eric messing with present Eric again.
Of course it’s a short week and the workload can be described as “AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!” so I’m not getting as much done as I’d like.
For all those reasons I’m starting a new tradition: Recommendation Wednesday. Where it’s Wednesday and I recommend something.
This week’s recommendation is: WereGeek.
It’s the most balanced gaming/slice of life comic I’ve read. The characters are fun and believable and the gaming is exciting and makes me want to try new things. Plus there’s a healthy sprinkling of puns.
Alina Pete has a great sense of humour and a great feel for characters. Go give it a read if you’re into gaming and like webcomics.

The Doctor and Martha stopped by and posed for a quick picture before rushing off to save the world. Do you remember the giant alien running rampant down Bronson? Of course not, because they stopped him before it got there!
This tiny Thor couldn’t wait to get his hands on the TARDIS. Or maybe it looked like food, because right after this picture was taken, he tried to put it in his mouth.
There seems to be three forms of swears, those related to bodily functions, those related to religion, and those related to specific kinds of people.
Trying to find swears that don’t make me sound like Ned Flanders is difficult. I have the traditional swears of my people “Frak, Petac, Jar Jar, I bite my thumb at thee, etc” but I’d like to have something that Muggles would get but that doesn’t involve insulting a whole group of people.
Calling someone a Bastard insults everyone who’s been born out of wedlock not just the person I’m angry at. Is there a way to insult the person without insulting someone else?
If I hit my hand with a hammer and yell out the F word it I don’t actually want to fornicate with the hammer. Is there a way of expressing my pain that isn’t boring like “Ouch! that hurt me severely!”

Have you ever thought about a project, game, tv show, series of movies, or book and thought, “Dang! That was a large chunk of my life.”
I read an average of 15 hours a week (Fiction, articles, news, facebook). I read much more fiction in grade school and high school and almost finished an English degree in university. If you stretch that over my entire life (24 years of which I read regularly) that’s 18,720 hours or just over 2 years of my life (It’s probably a little higher than that). Some would say I’ve been slacking that’s only 1/18th of my life.
I’m sure if you looked into my other hobbies (Writing, TV, Movies, Tabletop games, Video games, Tabletop role playing games, acting, and talking) you’d find that it’s a huge part of my life as I am a “ GamingBuff”
Is all that a waste of time? Does my deep seeded love and obsession with stories “Wasting Time”?
If you know me you’ll already know that I don’t think it was but I hear so many people accusing activities of being a waste of time.
I’ve seen every Star Trek episode ever aired (Yes including the Animated Series) does that mean I’ve wasted over 600 hours not counting the movies? I don’t think so, I think it made me think throughout the 6 series. It challenged my idea of humanity, morals, and various other concepts.
“Well that’s Star Trek,” I hear you thinking. It’s not. Any story has something in it to make you think and challenge your preconceptions about the world. Even if all you have to think is how bad this story is and how you could fix it.
I think for something to be worth your time, it needs to have two things:
1. An idea or lesson (Something to make you think)
2. Fun (Something that you enjoy)
If you read my book or movie reviews you know I’ll talk about “important” stories that I didn’t enjoy but that I believe are wonderful. It means I didn’t enjoy it but it made me think. These are often great works that are too painful for me to re-watch but I feel that I’ve grown while watching/reading them.
So my imaginary friends, next time someone tells you to get your nose out of a book, your ass off the couch, your head from a game, or your hand off the polyhedral dice, and stop wasting time. Ask them what is more important than learning about your world and yourself through its best, worst, and average stories. (I’d also apply this to Sports, Travelling, and Creating.)
Until later, remember to see your world through a critical eye.

Hello,
There are three points in a novel where an author has trouble, the beginning, the middle, and the end.
Ok, all jokes aside this novel is kicking my ass. For one thing, it’s much longer than my previous novels making me think that I should start into the third act instead of still being early in the second. For another thing, I’m starting to move my characters farther in their development than I expected. And for a last thing, I’m worried because it’s so different from everything I’ve written before.
It’s just the middle of the book blues. I’m done with the exciting set up and introduction and now I have to fulfil stuff and twist the knife on my poor sad characters. (Speaking of which if you haven’t voted in the “Who’s going to die” poll or want to vote a second time. Now would be the time.)
It’s seriously impressive how a big life change can throw me through a loop. My wife and I bought a house (I might have mentioned once or twice) and I’m having a hard time adjusting. The air is different, the steps between places are different, the feel of the carpet, etc. It’s all so new. I love the new place, the library is bigger and better but just as calming, and we have a BBQ.
Still waiting on one of the publishing companies about “A Study in Aether” I suppose that means it’s good enough that they didn’t dismiss it offhand but it’s not so fraking awesome that they grabbed it right away. If I don’t hear by the end of May I’ll contact them and see if I fell through the cracks.
In January, we hadn’t planned on moving, let alone buying a new house. That’s slowed my plans down for setting up a new website and for updating FADDS. I’m still working on the two of them but slower than I would have liked. As for the Webshow… Well it’s on hold until the house is more put together.
Hopefully by the end of summer we’ll have everything up.
