Dear Dragon – Welcome to Level 8

Dear Dragon,

The past year has been exciting and stressful. You started in-person school and did fantastically. You have shown a strong sense of justice, defending your classmates and the rules. You also had a few surprise interactions; one who told you Santa didn’t exist and another who made hateful comments.

You learned a lot and did lots.

  • You learned a lot at school. Still loving art and math but discovering dance and dramatic arts
  • You still need a little help in French but you’re doing fantastically
  • Your reading is doing great, you’re devouring books
  • Your swimming is amazing you can swim very fast
  • You caught a dozen colds, including RSV (hopefully we’ll have less this year)
  • You spent all of December sick and at home
  • You played a lot of escape room video games with mum and Adrien
  • And lots more.

Our big adventure this summer was going to California and Disneyland. We went with Grannie, Granddad, and Aunt Lindsay. It was nice to have the 7 of us in a relaxing situation. It certainly helped my mental and physical health. It was also a lot of fun. We did the parks, lots of shopping, and we went to an aquarium. You and your brother were excellent. You didn’t want to leave and I understand why.

You are growing into a strong and kind person and I can’t be more proud of you. You do your best to make sure everyone is included and feeling comfortable. You stand up for what you think is right and you don’t let others push you around.

I hope you’re having a good childhood. Sometimes it feels like the world is spiralling into hate and anger. As parents, we try to give you the tools to survive and a safe environment to use them. With in-person school and me going back to work more, there’s so much of your life I’m not part of. I worry about the things you don’t tell us and I worry about you.

Eight feels like an important number and I hope you have a wonderful year with less disease.

I love you my Dragon,

Your Papa

A Haunted Anniversary

The Haunted Mansion in Disneyland is celebrating it’s 50th Anniversary this August, and they’re inviting all of the living to join them!

Well, all the living that manage to buy a ticket, that is.

There are only two dates for this special celebration: August 7th and 8th (until 4am the next morning).

Tickets are priced at $299 USD per person, and while the wording is vague about what is free and what is not for food, they do specify “a commemorative event memento, […] a guide map, event credential, and unlimited downloads of Disney PhotoPass® photos taken during the event [are] included with each ticket.”

Don’t want to miss out on a once in a lifetime (or deathtime?) event in Disneyland California? Tickets are available starting tomorrow, May 23, 2019.

If you’re lucky a ghost might even follow you home.

Disneyland Tokyo Instant Coffee

Hello Coffee Lovers,

My wonderful sister in law bought me a small can of instant coffee from Tokyo Disneyland. With this, I’ve tasted coffee from 3 Disneylands and Disney World.

Here’s the adorable minikeg of coffee with my favourite Disney World mug.

Unfortunately the instructions for opening were in Japanese. Fortunately it wasn’t too complicated.

Each packet I think makes a regular sized cup but the instructions were again in Japanese. So I used 2 packets in my large 18oz cup.

The coffee was smoky with a weird bitter aftertaste.

Overall it was fun to try, but I won’t be trying to import more. I do have another 6 packets though. Maybe I’ll try cooking with it.

Thank you sister in-law for the fun experience and the awesome coffee keg decoration.

What are your thoughts on instant coffee?
Éric

New Disney Updates

I am a big Disney fan. Anyone who knows me can tell you that. So when I heard that the two North American Disney parks were adding Pixar content, I got incredibly (get it?) excited.

Disney World (Florida)

Toy Story Land, in the Hollywood Studios park (possibly soon to be renamed again), is opening on June 30, 2018 in Florida. There will be a roller coaster (Slinky dog), swirling saucers (Aliens), an expanded Toy Story Mania, and Woody’s lunch box fill this new space. I’m sure there will be more coming, as well. There’s lots of room for expansion.

Disneyland (California)

Image from www.travelweekly.com

June 23, 2018, Pixar Pier in the California Adventures park will be officially open! If you don’t want to wait that long, however, there will be a preview of the Pier during Pixar Fest starting April 13. Rides you will find include a roller coaster (Incredibles), Toy Story Mania and neighbourhood, “something” from Inside Out, and a complete re-theme of the pier with images and characters.

You can read more about the changes in Florida here, and California here, here, and here.

Disneyland; Hong Kong vs Shanghai

If you are heading to the other side of the world, visiting China, and are a major Disney fan, there are two potential parks that you will want to visit.

See this comparison breakdown of the parks.

tl;dr: Hong Kong is the winner.
