Spot the Changes: Faymous edition

Sometimes changes need to be made to the cover after the colour is done. We try to catch as many as we can with the sketch, but the colour adds so much detail that didn’t always pop up in the sketch. In the case of Faymous, there were seven differences between the first colour and the final cover. Can you spot them all? Don’t scroll down until you’re ready for the answer.

Dear Dragon and Pegasus – Interesting Traditions

Dear Dragon and Pegasus,

I’m sure that by the point you’re reading these, you have already figured out that we had some… different… traditions.

When I you were sick in December 2023 (half a dozen ear infections between you on top of RSV) and I was recovering from RSV, Mum played an escape room game on the TV. Since, whenever you’re sick, we tend to play one. Especially if Mum is sick, or has a broken foot like now.

This past week we all played, (I played from a distance since I was working) a game called Enigmatis. It’s a puzzle and hidden object game with a storyline. We played all three and will probably play more from the same company, Artifex Mundi.

I really enjoy watching you guess the stories, figure out the puzzles, and find the hidden objects. The game was a little scarier than I would have wanted, but you loved it.

It’s nice to relax and do something together when a large portion of us aren’t feeling well.

I know someday you’ll probably find this “cringe” but I’m going to enjoy as long as I can.

I love you!

Papa

Uncharted – JenEric Movie Review

How This Works – Read Other Reviews

Hello Cinephiles,

Today we’re talking about the 2022 film Uncharted.

Story

The story isn’t all that original and is best when they’re doing the treasure hunting parts.

Score: 0.5

Characters

Every character is backstabbing and tragic. It’s a little tired by the end, especially when they try to make them seem less bad. Nathan Drake is likeable because he’s the main character and Tom Holland is a sweetheart. The rest are kinda meh.

Score: 0.5

Dialogue

Fun quips, silly dialogue, and archeological techno-babble is all fun, but other than Drake, no one seemed to have any emotions.

Score: 0.5

Visual and Music

It’s a little too obvious that the movie was built around the visuals and the fight scenes. It’s gorgeous and beautiful to look at.

The music is fantastic and has wonderful references to the game.

Score: 1

Fun

The treasure hunting was fantastic, but the character moments mostly fell flat. It frustrated me that no one corrected the “found gold” narrative when it was obviously gold belonging to the natives.

Score: 1

Overall

A visual spectacle with little to no plot that is completely carried by the charisma of Tom Holland. The treasure hunt is exciting and the puzzels interesting. It’s fun with great action scenes, but not super memorable.

Final Score: 3.5 out of 5

Blush: New game?

On March 4th, Global News* reported on a new interactive game* for mobile, called “Clit-Me”, designed to simulate different “techniques” to “satisfy” the clitoris avatar. Each of the five levels unlocks content and statistics on sexual satisfaction.

*Please note: gendered language is used throughout the article and game.

Image from globalnews.ca

This game was designed by eight interns at NFB’s Digital Studio in Montreal during their internship through the Université du Québec à Montreal (UQAM). During their research into the statistics on clitoral orgasms, they discovered that only 62% reached climax with a first time partner compared to 85% of those with a penis. So they decided to build a game that might help to close that gap.

I played it. It’s cute. A little clunky at times (especially the multi-touch level), but cute. This game is only available on mobile devices.

Seize the Bean – Kickstarter

Hello Coffee Lover!

I came across a really cool Kickstarter board game called Seize the Bean. The concept is pretty simple; you play a coffee shop owner trying to make their customers happy. It’s a really interesting concept and has a lot of potential.

Plus it has these adorable Coffee Beans, milk cartons, and sugar cubes as play pieces.
It’s a little pricey at $60 Canadian but looks well worth it in quality. Check out the video.

Enjoy and stay Caffeinated!

Thank You for a Great Weekend

Hello my imaginary friends,

I hope you’re having a great week. Mine’s been awesome!

ComicCon

This past weekend was Ottawa ComicCon. Roughly 40,000 people crammed into the convention centre and enjoyed all things geeky. It was amazing.

Jen and I had a booth. This meant that the past month has been spent preparing and stressing. Our house looks like a mini Godzilla has passed through and deposited yarn, button pieces, and coffee all over the place.

All our preparation was well worth it. I nearly sold out of coffee and Jen’s stock was at least halved. (She hasn’t been this low since we started selling.) We did really well, yay!

We also met all kinds of awesome people. Thank you for stopping by and talking with us, it was great to share my passion for coffee with so many others.

Important links

We talked about a lot of things. If you’re trying to find something specific, check here:

Awesome Kickstarter

A Match Made in Austen is a new Kickstarter for a card game based off the world of Jane Austen’s novels. If you’ve always wanted to see how Darcy and Emma would get along (probably terribly), this is the game for you.

The base game is $25 and you get a free ebook with it. You can’t beat that price.

Go check out the Kickstarter.

My Reading Quest

I’ve been going through my extensive library and reading the first in a bunch of series. The goal is to find out what I am keeping and what I’m getting rid of.

I read Tempest by Julie Cross and loved it. Here’s my review:

A rare book that doesn’t spend to much time on the mechanics of time travel. I love that the author is able to show us the same person in different stages of their lives and makes it believable. I look forward to reading the sequels.

I give it a 75%

What are you excited for right now?
