Roasting in winter

Hello Coffee Lovers,

Yes, it’s still winter here. There are some advantages to roasting in winter. The first being that the beans cool faster. The second being that roasting things at 250-300 Celcius is a lot more tolerable when the temperature outside is -5.

The shoveling and having to stop for snowfall isn’t as much fun.

I was roasting this weekend to prepare for Mini Ottawa Comiccon. It’s at the EY centre and will be a vendors market with free entrance (Although parking is $10).

Hours are 11-6 on Saturday and 11-5 on Sunday.

Hope to see you there,

Éric

Meeting Cary Elwes

Hello My Imaginary Friends,

On Friday we met Cary Elwes. Here’s Jen’s wonderful description of meeting the Dread Pirate himself:

We asked him his favourite picture of the bunch, and he said the one where he just rescued Buttercup, but we wanted one of him as himself, so we chose him in a suit.

Here’s the picture we chose to have him sign.

He asked our names, Jen and Éric, and then I said “we’re JenEric” and he paused and had a sensible chuckle (TM). He stumbled over the pronunciation of Dragon’s name, but got it right after I corrected him. He asked their ages.

Then while he was signing, I asked my question, which was “We really enjoyed you in ‘A Castle for Christmas’ and we’re wondering if you were going to do any more Christmas movies?” He said that he really enjoyed his two months in Scotland filming that, and that he liked taking challenging roles, from which I gathered that he is unlikely to do that again lol.

Then when we were about to leave, he asked to see a picture of the kids, and he said they were beautiful and that we’re very lucky.

Then we got fist bumps.

My cheeks still hurt from smiling.

He was sweet, patient, and really great to interact with. We only got the autograph and not a photo-op.

Stay safe and be kind,

Éric

Comiccon 2017 Report

Hello My Imaginary Friends,

With my week off and 2d6 Con drain, I forgot to talk about Ottawa Comiccon 2017. First things first:

Thank You!You made this years’ comiccon the best we’ve ever had, both in sales and in great company. We had a lot of people coming by to see Baby Dragon (who was quite the trooper) and a lot of return customers.

A great big thank you goes to Lindsay (GiLove2Dance) for sharing a table again this year and helping with Dragon. It was nice to get a break when she stole the baby and walked around.

We’re almost recovered from Comiccon now, so it’s time to start thinking about our next events. Our next selling event is C.O.N. Creative Ottawa Nerds Craft Show. It’s one of my favourite shows.

Thank you again, and hope to see you June 10th,

Ottawa COMICCON 2015

Hey my imaginary friends,

Ottawa ComicCon

I’ve spent the last month completely revamping JenEric Designs booth set up for ComicCon and prepping stock.

This will be the first time we sell at a Con this big. We’ve done PopExpo, Geek Market, and Creative Ottawa Nerds Craft Fair, but they’re tiny in comparison to the amount of people that go to ComicCon.

I’ve been up late every day this week working on something and I’ll be staying up late tonight to roast more coffee for free samples. I’ll have brewed coffee for free (Crazy?)

I’m not going to lie, it’s stressful. I look forward to relaxing on Monday. I’m also ridiculously excited. So come see us at booth 2203!

Throwback Thursday

This picture is of me and two of my good friends from way back in 2001. We were volunteering with the 2001 Francophonie Games in Ottawa. The games are like the Commonwealth games but for French speaking nations. It’s was a great time.

I’m the dorky one on the left. I think I still have that hat somewhere…

See you tomorrow.

Ottawa Comiccon – People you must go check out!

Hello my Imaginary Friends,

comiccon

Today is the start of Ottawa Comic Con. If you are the kind of person who hates browsing the millions of booths, tables, etc., let me help you with a few recommendations.

S.M. Carrière – Table 2416B

sm

S.M. is an author of fantasy novels and she’s a darn good one at that. Her books aren’t expensive considering their quality and they’re a lot of fun.

I highly recommend you go by (and buy) to say hello.

Ottawa Brown Coats – Table 2312B

OBC

I like to describe the Brown Coats as the nexus of Ottawa geekdom. They are well connected and a lot of fun to talk with. Pick up some buttons or, if like me, you’re a fan of Firefly, let them know about your favourite episode.

Charming Creations – Table 2000

charming

Do you like Geeky T-shirts and jewelry? Of course you do! This combined store will have a little bit of everything you need. The clothing is of great quality and made by the seller, and the jewelry is the same.

Go check out what they have and good luck not buying something.

Both Jen and I will be walking around at the Con, if you see us, say hi!
