Blush: Recommendation Wednesday: Nadine Thornhill, Ed.D

Ontario scrapped the Health curriculum. I’m sure you’ve heard about that. In the interim of coming up with a “better” version, they’ve reverted to the 1998 curriculum in Elementary schools, eliminating talk about consent, LGBTQIA2S+, cyberbullying, and more from the curriculum. Secondary school curriculum hasn’t changed as much, fortunately, but I’m still concerned about what they might change it to.

Fortunately, there are people who have the province’s children’s best interests at heart, and Nadine Thornhill, Ed.D, is one of those.

She is a sex educator, and while her website has workshops for parents and teachers, her YouTube channel has videos for free. #savesexed are her videos specifically for students in primary, intermediate, and secondary schools, although the rest of her videos are great as well.

#savesexed is Nadine Thornhill’s YouTube series geared towards students in the Ontario school board. Image from www.youtube.com.

Ontario’s government might be stuck in the past, but together, we can work together for our future.

Dil, Tabitha, and baby Dab

My sister introduced me to Dan (Twitter) and Phil (Twitter) just after Dragon was born, so she has “grown up” with their voices. It just made sense for her first cosplay to be Baby Dab, from DanandPhilGames play the Sims. I cannot recommend these two YouTubers enough, on both of their own channels (AmazingPhil and Danisnotonfire), and on their collaborative efforts.

Also in the picture with Baby Dab are Dil (cosplayed by Lindsay (Website, Twitter)), and Tabitha (cosplayed by Vic (Instagram, Twitter)), and Dan (held by Dil) and Phil (held by Tabitha) plushies.

Blush: Sexplanations Recommendation

When Dr Lindsey Doe’s channel Sexplanations went live almost 3 years ago, I was super excited to hear about it. She has uploaded tons of videos since, and although I’m not a religious watcher of her channel, I think its a fantastic resource! She’s adorable, hilarious, and educational all rolled into one package. Highly recommended!

Catbug

If you haven’t heard about the adorable Catbug yet, you really really need to watch The Bravest Warriors on YouTube. Here is the link to the very first episode.

I am helping to organize a new craft fair that is happening March 21, 2015. It is called CON Creative Ottawa Nerds. You can say that you’re going to the event here, and you can like our Facebook page here. Éric wrote about it here.

Recomendation Tuesday – My Drunk Kitchen

Hello my Imaginary Friends,

I needed a little cheering up today after hearing the news about Robin Williams.

If there’s one Youtube star that will always make me smile, it’s Hannah Hart of My Drunk Kitchen. She has a reckless love of cooking drunk. No matter what she makes the episodes are filled with food puns and fun.

She’s also written a book called My Drunk Kitchen, which I can’t wait to get.
MyDrunkKitchenREV
Check out Hannah with Jaime Oliver in the latest My Drunk Kitchen.

*Warning there is drinking and swearing during the show*

Do you like to cook? What’s your favourite Recipe?

Enjoy and I hope this brings a smile to your faces,

Éric

Selfies and Recommendation Wednesday – Laci Green

Hello,

Today I wanted to kill two birds with one stone. Recommend an awesome person and talk about Selfies.

Selfies

A shaggy and tired Aspiring Something
A shaggy tired Aspiring Something!

There’s a lot of controversy about selfies. Some people think it’s vain and don’t understand why they exist. Others think it’s a natural expression of life.

This taps into a greater societal conditioning that has told us two contradicting things:

  1. You’re not handsome/pretty or special. Get over yourself or people will think you’re self-involved.
  2. If you want to be happy you must buy this product that will make you handsome/pretty so that people will like you

So when we see someone constantly posting their face all over their social media we react by rolling our eyes. What we should be doing is encouraging people to find what they like about themselves. Selfies can be a road to self-esteem.

I for one am all for people having more self-esteem.

Laci Green has a video that explains this way better:

Laci Green

Laci Green is an educator, councillor, youtube host, and an advocate of sex education.

She hosts the wonderful Sex+, a host of DNews, and produced A Naked Notion with Planned Parenthood.

One of the great things about Laci is her ability to express complex and often awkward concepts around sex, in a clear and entertaining fashion.

I honestly wish that she’d been around when I was first learning about sexuality.

What’s your stance on Selfies?

Eric

Recomendation Wednesday – Silver Stag Entertainment

Hello,

This week’s Recommendation Wednesday is for a Webseries and web organization.

I’ve mentioned them before but Silver Stag Entertainment, is a great website that delves into Books, Movies, and all the awesome speculative fiction stuff.

Go ahead and follow them on:

Their Youtube channel has several great shows and covers book readings/launches.

Let me be honest with you; I’m an occasional contributor to their Nights at the Round Table (NatRT) show that reviews and discusses books and movies. So this is mildly self-serving but even if I wasn’t involved I would follow, subscribe, etc because the people who run it are awesome!

Silver Stag Entertainment has only been around for half a year now and I’m impressed with what they’ve been able to accomplish. I also look forward to seeing how they’ll grow and the wonderful things they’ll do in the future.

Enjoy the bloopers below.

Recommendation Wednesday – Video Game High School

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8ScNjBd118&w=560&h=315]

A few weeks back a friend recommended I look up Video Game High School and I was instantly hooked.

My productivity was completely destroyed for two days as I plowed through the two seasons on Youtube.

The show has its issues but it’s a lot of fun to watch and extremely funny.

Go Enjoy!
