I saw a post on Instagram a while back detailing the author’s favourite things, and I thought it would be fun to do that, not only for ourselves, but for our characters too! Here’s Jen’s:

Hello Friends, Family, and Fans;
It’s been quite the year so far (and it’s only June). Between politics, war, and the world in general, I’m feeling worn out and overwhelmed. My health issues (allergies, migraines, bilateral arm pain, and tendonitis) aren’t helping.
There are several things that are helping though. Working from home has been wonderful. I’m more productive and feel better. If I hadn’t been working from home these past months, I would have burned out completely. I really hope my employer makes this permanent.
Skyrim is also helping. When I was off work for a week because of the tendonitis, it hurt to hold a book or a phone but I could rest my controller on my lap. It was familiar with a few differences (I started a new playthrough). It’s gone from a fun game to a soothing comfort activity.
I saw a post (do people still call them that on Instagram?) with a series of illustrations of people wearing pride colours as allies and that it put queer people at ease. I thought that was really awesome. I’m not an ally, I’m bisexual and queer.
The whole concept has made me want to get a geeky pride tattoo. My top contenders are:
I haven’t fully made up my mind. If you have any ideas, feel free to drop them into the comments.
In short, I’m struggling but I’ll be okay and I want another tattoo…
Stay safe and be kind,
Éric
Winging It is a queer YA portal fantasy romance. There are several other books that have a similar style, in one way or another, to my book. Here is the image I made with all the covers of the style comparisons.
A wedding and a summer camp that Tommy and Carter are never going to forget.
Tommy discovers magic exists, his boyfriend is a rock giant, and his sister is marrying one of the leaders of a supernatural community called Aetherborn.
Carter learns to navigate an in-person relationship, introducing Tommy to the magical world, and being involved in his Ariki’s wedding.
Both boys need to build their confidence in each other, themselves, and their relationship. The Door Tech summer camp seems to be the perfect way to do that, until they get magically transported to the not-so-fictional world of Everdome. In this realm of Domed continents floating in space, winged beasts, and new cultures, the boys will have to overcome challenges beyond anything they’ve seen before.
The only way they, and their relationship, can survive is if they start Winging It!
Book 2 in the Lucky in Love series
Hello Readers,
I’m so excited that these two books are out. You’re going to love them!

Until last summer, I was the most popular girl in school. Then I was accused of killing my boyfriend when he disappeared. Luckily, he didn’t die, but he wasn’t the same when he came back. Murder accusations are nothing compared to the rumours that I kissed said boyfriend’s sister. That rumour proved to be the real killer for my popularity.
Now everyone hates me except the gorgeous new girl who seems determined to ruin any chances of being popular by hanging out with me. There’s also a cute soldier hanging around my mom’s diner and freaky sounds in the woods.
Autumn definitely won’t be dull. All I need to do is graduate…and stay alive.

When I set out to write Winging It, I knew that I was going to drop them into Everdome. If you read the novella at the end of Crushing It, it hinted heavily that something was up.
But what is Everdome?
Éric and I have been writing (him earlier than I) since 2008, and all our books are currently in the same shared universe: the Aetherverse. Within that universe are several worlds: Earth and all the galaxies and such that we see in our sky is one of them. But around that world is the stuff of magic, the Aether. And if you punch through that magic, you can get to other worlds, like the Fay Realm, Make-Believe, New Albion, and Everdome. I’m sure there are others we haven’t discovered yet. There are no limitations to creativity!
In 2019, Éric released a book called Everdome. It was rereleased this year with a brand new cover.
The world in it was shattered over a millenia ago, but wizards managed to gather enough power to protect large continents under domes. They are connected to each other by portals, and there is some very complicated math going on to track the movement of the domes. And yes, sometimes they bump into each other and cause earthquakes.
Tommy, Carter, Elyse, and Greg find themselves on the Gaulan dome in Everdome, and have to get home. We get to see some of the culture in several domes:
Gaulan, which has lots of forests, sheep, and livestock. There’s a university in the capital city of Tène, as well as a castle.
Pakaha, the smallest dome, which is where the high king sits. Lots of arts in the city, and where the main administration is located.
Wild Nations is what you’d get if you mixed Australia’s heat with Mediterranean culture. This dome spins in the opposite direction than the others, and rarely turns away from the sun. The time zone is quite different than the other domes, and so it keeps to itself mostly, meaning that a lot of rumours appear about it in other domes.
Sartorna has got similar vibes to Upper Canada. Lots of limestone buildings, moss and ivy growing wild. This is where you’d want to go to do an in-depth research project, especially if it has something to do with magic.
Ruby Isles is a tropical getaway. Warm ocean dotted with islands, this primarily functions like a resort, with small portals to each island that are rented out like hotel rooms. They also have tropical fruit farms on the larger islands.
Ohana has heavy jungles, rainforests, and oceans. It would probably be considered one of the most unstable domes, as it has volcanic activity on occassion.
I had a lot of fun writing in the world of Everdome, but I feel like I barely scratched the surface! The third book doesn’t go back to it, so I’ll have to find a different route to return.
